The uncertainties of the growth of exports from Italian territories

Especially in the North-West, in Q3-2019 there was a sharp drop in the share of territories in the expansion phase.

The share of growing territories in the third quarter 2019
fell to just 50%, from 73% at the end of 2018.

Recent data on Italian Exports by territories for the third quarter of 2019 confirm signs of a weakening of the economic situation: in the most recent quarter, only one province out of two recorded an increase in exports, compared to 59% in the previous quarter and, above all, 73% at the end of 2018.

The North-West territories were particularly affected
by the slowdown in exports...

Export data available in Exportpedia1 for the third quarter of 2019 show a further deterioration in the performance of the North-West Italian territories, with a share of just 24% of provinces growing in export trends (this share had already fallen sharply in the previous quarters, from 85% at the end of 2018).

The share of provinces in Central Italy in growth in exported values, although still majority (55%), is significantly lower than in the previous quarter.
In South Italy, the share of territories in growth in exported values (50%) also appears to have worsened - albeit slightly - compared to three months before, well below the levels at the end of 2018.

.. while the high "resilience" of the territories
in the North-East was much confirmed.

In a context of general deterioration, the most recent quarter highlighted the performance against the trend of exports of the North-Eastean territories, with a growing share (73%) of provinces advancing in export trends, confirming - once again - the area of the country with the greatest spread of territories increasing in export dynamics.
